Color is the most exciting element in our industry. Color plays such a strong role in successfully creating the look that you want. I have been doing it passionately for over 14 years.
Every cut or style can be dramatically enhanced with color. Color brings out structure lines, gives dimension and shine, and greatly improves the look of the hair's condition. Lyal McCaig once said, "hair is like fabric, and not all fabric is alike." The same color palette on various types of fabric will inevitably appear different. For example, wavy hair needs the shine factor turned up a notch, whereas long, straight hair has the ability to easily reflect light. Short, active cuts will display color differently than long sleek looks. Haircolor can be a subtle enhancement to an overall look, or bold, and "worn", as if an accessory.
Whenever I'm out and about, I like to formulate little color corrections in my head, looking at what went wrong and why. I see this as an invaluable tool; and another opportunity to analyze the color process. I am an incredibly visual person. Nature, architecture, art, and the media are where I draw most of my inspiration. To me, nothing is more gratifying than seeing the look of joy on a client's face that says "I just LOVE it!"
I like to begin by unveiling future color plans, presenting a new client with a few different options. I like to explain everything I am going to be doing, and why. Whether blending or covering grey, spicing up a natural color, or going all out with blonding and highlights; this helps them visualize the end before we begin. We can better communicate, and easily convey our color visions. This builds trust, which is key to a happy, returning client.
Most definitely! I think the cut and style, as well as the hair's condition, have everything to do with the way a color should proceed. Combining the perfect color, custom "chemistry-based" conditioning treatments, and a unique set of take-home products make it easy to create and maintain new and exciting options; giving each client successful, predictable results every time.
Jennifer Aniston has amazing color. Her highlights look like they just "float" on top of her perfect sandy, tan- blonde. A perfect example of less is more.
I don't ever want my clients to get bored with their color. Even if you love your color, there is always the opportunity with every visit, to switch it up. Whether it's seamless color, dazzling highlights, a simple shine booster, or a jolt of adventurous color that just peeks out when the hair "moves", I want my client to have fun, and look forward to their visit every time.
