ASK THE EXPERT

Every month, Redken takes your questions and asks the experts!

QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Q:  How did you create that fantastic fishtail braid that I saw you did on the models at the launch of Patricia Field’s House of Field swimwear launch this season?

A: The high, pinned up fishtail look at Patricia Fields was a fun evening looking and very wearable. We've seen so many buns up top and this is just taking it one step further . To modernize this type of look for every day, I suggest creating a beachy fishtail braid for day: first spray hair with a shine spray onto dry, textured hair from roots to tips. Then, part hair in the middle and sweep all the hair over one shoulder. If hair is short, gather hair at the nape or braid only one small section of hair. To create a fishtail braid for night, part straight hair on the right, just above the arch of the eyebrow, and pull hair over left shoulder. Then, to braid, split the hair to be braided into two equal sections. Pull a small strand of hair from the left section and add it to the right section. Then, pull a small strand of hair from the right section and add it to the left, that will create a small X, and repeat until all the hair is used. Finish by securing with a clear plastic band!
