New Hue, New You: Time to Love Thyself (Episode 2)

In episode two of “New Hue, New You,” —a YouTube video series that revolves around Redken Artists providing makeovers to lucky Redken clients to build confidence and positively change their lives—we meet Julia, who tells Redken she’s ready to start taking risks and putting herself first; and she wants to start with her hair.
When life gets overwhelming, it’s time to recharge. For some, it’s a weekend in, watching TV or cozying up to a book, while for others, it’s a trip to the spa for a relaxing massage or a salon appointment for a new cut and color. It doesn’t matter which one you go with; the point is to make time for yourself.
MEET THE CLIENT

Name: Julia
Age: 25
City: New York City (new resident!)
Occupation: Assistant
Hair Challenge: Priority to recharge and practice some self-care has fallen by the wayside
Fun Fact: Has never colored her hair
“I feel more comfortable giving to other people than giving to myself. I’m an assistant, and just that, in general, implies that you have to put other people’s needs before your own,” she says. “I don’t know what you’re supposed to do to pamper yourself.”
By focusing so much of her time on others, she admits she hasn’t been able to pay attention to her own needs. “I’ve forgotten to really pursue the dreams that I came to New York for,” she says. “I’m hoping that a new hairstyle will jump start that.”
Opting for a new hairstyle is a huge deal for Julia, her black hair has never been colored, making her a haircolor virgin—until this makeover, that is.
“I’ve always thought about going lighter with my hair. It’s always something in my head that I thought, ‘you can’t do that. You could never do that. You can’t pull that off.’ My mom always just said she loved the color of my hair. She’s always kind of like ‘don’t ever dye your hair.’”
THE HAIR MAKEOVER
Ready to take the leap, Julia is under the care of Redken Artist George Garcia.
To add dimension to Julia’s hair and frame her face, George plans to add some strategically-placed color, using Redken City Beats—a line of semi-permanent acidic conditioning color cream that includes pastel shades and bold hues.
IT'S YOUR TURN
Ready to take a risk and give yourself a hair makeover, like Julia did? Check out Salon Finder to locate your nearest Redken salon to schedule an appointment.
Coloring your hair for the first time can be intimidating, which is why it’s always a safer bet to leave it to the professionals—and it doesn’t have to be expensive. As George mentions in the video, you can save while adding noticeable vibrancy by only coloring sections of your hair versus your whole head.
